To Challenge the Impossible in New Zealand

The Impossibility Challenger World Record Games is a free one-day festival event where competitors attempt to overcome preconceived human limitations and challenge the seemingly impossible.  This is the first event of its kind in New Zealand – the Impossibility Challenger has been run successfully in Zurich Switzerland and Munich Germany since the early 1980s – bringing together multiple Guinness, world and personal record attempts on a single day in one location. Both startling and inspiring, these inaugural record breaking games are seen as a way of promoting self transcendence, international friendship and community spirit.

November 14th, 2009 The Trusts Stadium

Thanks to the generous key sponsorship of The Trusts Stadium, and with great support from the Waitakere City Parks Division the Douglas Track and Field will become the arena for potential record-breakers from around the world.

We believe that with the Kiwi “can-do” attitude, this is a fantastic place to hold the event and many locals will be keen to put their skills to good use by attempting individual or group records. One such local creating great excitement is Alastair Galpin, who is the second most prolific Guinness world record breaker of the last decade. He will attempt a series of Guinness world records including the most high fives in a minute.

International Athletes

New Zealand will receive its first visit from the 2004 Swiss bench press champion Albert Jamie Walter who for years has been tearing up phone books all around the globe, setting world records for these incredible  feats of strength. He will also attempt a world record for bending in half a series of large carpenters nails.

‘Guinness Sport’ and Self Transcendence

To athletes and record contenders these feats have become known as ‘Guinness Sport’. People of all ages, from all walks of life are attracted to the event bent on establishing world and personal records in a variety of non-Olympic sports and disciplines. The term ‘Guinness Sport’ was coined in the seventies to describe the daredevil antics that earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Self Transcendence Games

On the day there will be a series of Self Transcendence Games open to everyone. Embracing the value of competing with oneself, these simple challenges will involve speed, strength, endurance and patience. These will be fun novel events that young and old can compete in alongside celebrities, and suitable for the kids and the whole family, with certificates for all competitors.
